While on maternity leave in 2002, founder Martha Scully was frustrated with the lack of resources available to her to find child care for her two young daughters. She then came up with the idea of an online resource for parents like herself to find child care quickly and economically. In 2002, CanadianSitter.ca was launched to put families in contact with university and college students. In the years to come, CanadianNanny.ca and CanadianAdultCare.ca were launched to cater to the many needs of Canadian families. These services catered to the child care and adult care needs across Canada, with caregivers located in communities across the country.
The demand for the service has grown substantially, and CanadianNanny.ca has grown with it. In 2010, Scully merged her three services and expanded. CanadianNanny.ca now offers a service to find nannies, babysitters, adult caregivers, housekeepers, and pet care workers for one price in one location. Families in Canada are now able to locate jobseekers of any type by postal code with a map displaying results. Jobseeker profiles offer experience, qualifications, certifications, availability, photos, and resumes.
