A Mississauga nanny sent us this email the other day, requesting our assistance in what to do:

I have worked for a family that I really like for the last two years; their home almost feels like home to me. I feel comfortable around them, but lately, a situation has made me feel very uncomfortable.  The parents have always gotten along, but in the last two weeks they have been fighting a lot. There always seems to be tension in the air when they're around. The children are starting to notice and asking me questions about it.  I guess my problem is two things… What do I say to the kids, and do I address it with the parents?

The other day, we received an email from a parent in Toronto asking what our opinion was about hiring a nanny that is a mom to young children herself.

As a busy mom that isn't so great myself in the mornings (especially without my coffee!), I spent years mastering the morning craziness with my daughters at home. I feel that I have finally mastered it. Being organized in the morning allows for all of us to start our day on a peaceful note, instead of tense and rushed.

At CanadianNanny.ca, we have seen an increase in families looking to a nanny share as their childcare solution. Using our service, registered families are able to use our Nanny Share section for free. They can post an ad for other families to see; the only place where families can see other families' information.

In December I wrote a well researched blog entry about safety and pets around the holidays. Well, as karma will have it, I got to experience one of these well thought-out points in a few weeks later.

A family sent us an email this week asking if it is reasonable for her Toronto nanny to be allowed to text and email from her iPhone during work hours. Should the nanny be allowed to text while the kids are sleeping? Or watching TV?

The holidays are a wonderful time. Many families have time off of work, kids are out of school, and most activities die down for a few weeks. This gives us more time to relax and spend our time with our friends and family. This is wonderful for you and your family, but what about the people who work for your family, your nanny, babysitter, caregiver, housekeeper or pet sitter?

Christmas is fun, putting out decorations, gathering with friends and family and sharing wonderful food and drinks with them. However, this can be a dangerous time for our animals. Our pets are curious and want to sniff or eat anything they can get their paws onto.
