FAQ – Parent Related:
Q: What is CanadianNanny.ca?
A: CanadianNanny.ca is an online job posting site to be used as a venue for parents and nannies to meet each other and discuss employment opportunities related to childcare. We are not a placement agency that will send nanny profiles directly to you for your position, we do not place nannies with families, and we do not refer names to families. As a parent, you would be able to post a profile stating your contact information as well as a description of your family and the position you are trying to fill. This profile, which is completed upon registration, will be posted in the database of Parents where nannies can search in their area for a position. If interested, the nannies will contact you directly by email or another method of contact you have specified. Once you are registered, you will have access to the database of nannies and will be able to view their profiles and contact them by email if you are interested in hiring them. You will also be able to post a job which is recommended but optional, to attract more applicants to your position, giving you more visibility on the site and therefore increasing your chances of success.
Q: What is the cost to use CanadianNanny.ca?
A: Parents can register for a subscription period of either 2 or 6 months with the option to renew their membership. For a 2-month subscription, the fee is $65.95 plus GST while a 6-month membership is $105.95 plus GST. For the duration of your membership, a profile (completed upon registration) will be posted in the parent database for the nannies to see; you will also have full access to the database of nannies for the length of your membership. During your subscription period, you have the option to post a job in addition to your profile; job postings stay active and online for a maximum of 2 weeks at which point a new posting should be put up if the job isn’t filled.
Q: Does Canadiannanny.ca screen the nannies?
A: No the nannies are not screened. We recommend that you: a) Contact at least two of the nanny’s references b) When you have a personal interview with the nanny make sure to discuss any behaviour issues your children may have, what activities they enjoy and if the child has any allergies etc. c) Ask some scenario questions to see how she would handle different situations
Q: What are my payment options?
A: To pay for your CanadianNanny.ca account, you can pay online using your VISA or MasterCard, or you can pay by cheque. If you pay online with your credit card, you will have instant access once your card is accepted. If you pay by cheque, please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery and processing times.
Q: How can I pay for my membership with Canadiannanny.ca?
A: We accept VISA, MasterCard, and cheque payments only. When registering, if you input your credit card information on our secure website, you will have instant access once your card is accepted. If you select cheque as your payment, please allow 2-3 weeks for mailing and processing time. At this time, we do not accept other credit cards and we are not able to accept paypal payments.
Q: What if I don’t have a credit card?
A: If you do not have a credit card, you can pay by cheque, but please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery and processing times. When sending your cheque, please be sure to include your first and last name and email address with your cheque, as well as that you are paying for a Canadian Nanny membership for quick processing. Please be aware that your account will not be activated until we receive your payment and we will send you a confirmation by email. Mail your cheques to: Canadian Sitter Inc. PO Box 41026, RPO Woodgrove Nanaimo, BC V9T 6M7
Q: How do I know my credit card information is secure?
A: Canadiansitter.ca takes your security seriously and thus selected to secure your credit card transactions using SSL (secure socket layer) technology. SSL is the industry standard for protecting web communications today. The SSL security protocol provides data encryption, server authentication and message integrity. Credit card processes are processed immediately and securely; we do not store credit card numbers in our databases. Click here to view our Thwate SSL Certificate. We also go to great lengths to ensure your personal information can not be obtained by others.
Q: What is the “going rate” for a nanny?
A: Each nanny has different qualifications, education, and wage expectations. The average rate is between $10.00 and $16.00 per hour, depending on nanny experience and job details. The nanny wages stated in profiles are just a guideline and can always be negotiated with the nanny. The price range also varies with where you are living in Canada. The rate may depend on the number of children the nanny will be responsible for and if there is any cleaning involved in the position; the experience of the nanny can also affect the wages. We recommend estimating how much you would be willing to pay your nanny, and then discussing and negotiating the wage with your nanny upon hiring.
Q: I am not sure I would like to register without knowing if you will have qualified nannies in my area. Can I look at the list of nannies before joining?
A: We encourage you to test the database before joining. To do so, simply click here. You will be able to get a feel for the type of information we request nannies to complete during the registration process, and see how many nannies are listed in your area.
Q: If I don’t find anyone for my position, can I have a refund?
A: There are no refunds for memberships. Once CanadianNanny.ca has received your payment and activated your account, you are given unlimited access to the parent side of the database. We do not issue partial or full refunds on the subscription rate. To verify that there is an adequate supply of nannies in your area, please do a test search for your city by clicking here.
Q: I am using a Mac computer and I can’t login to my account, how come?
A: Due to the high security settings that Mac’s are known for, some users may find difficulties logging into their account. As we have a database website, some computers view it as a threat, but it is not. If you are unable to login, please try using the “Parent Login” box on the left-hand side of the screen, or the “Login” button at the top of the screen. If you are still unable to login, please ensure that cookies are enabled in your browser, pop-ups are not blocked for our site, your firewall is allowing access to the site, and your anti-virus software is allowing access to the site.
Q: I have registered and paid for my account, why can’t I login?
A: If you have received your Welcome Letter from us containing your email address and password, please try to copy and paste the information from that email into the site. Be sure that there are no extra spaces and that the information is entered in exactly as it appears. If you have already done this, your problems could be due to the security settings on your computer. Please ensure that cookies are enabled in your browser, pop-ups are not blocked for our site, your firewall is allowing access to the site, and your anti-virus software is allowing access to the site. Because we are a database website, many computers will view us as a threat. If you are accessing the site from a workplace computer, please try from a different, non-work computer; if you are able to access it, your workplace computer will not allow you access. If you have not received a Welcome Letter, please re-register. Your registration was not saved and processed and we do not have record of your registration – you have not been charged.
Q: I have registered and paid for my membership but I have not received my book, “How to Hire and Keep a Good Nanny”?
A: The email containing the link to the download centre is delivered shortly after the Welcome Letter. Unfortunately, the email with the link is usually delivered to users’ junk-mail or spam folder. Please check your folders in your email for the letter, and any other lost messages from us or our nannies. If you cannot find the email, please let us know by sending us a quick email to info@canadiannanny.ca.
Q: What is the difference between CanadianNanny.ca and CanadianSitter.ca?
A: CanadianNanny.ca is an online resource for parents to find qualified full-time nannies. Generally speaking, the nannies listed here are looking for about 30 hours per week or more. The nannies have a range of experience, qualifications and availability and are looking for positions as part of their career as a caregiver. A: CanadianSitter.ca is an online resource for parents to find qualified part-time and occasional babysitters. The sitters are all current university and college students looking for about 25 hours per week or less, even occasional. The sitters have a range of experience, qualifications, and availability and are looking for positions to assist them to fund their schooling. If you are unsure of which service to use, please contact us by email info@canadiannanny.ca.
Q: How can I determine the experience and quality of care each nanny may provide?
A: There are two ways. Each nanny is given the opportunity to provide references on their profile. Feel free to contact their references. Secondly, nannies may have feedback given from other parents who have hired them previously. This would be located on the nannies profile. To read feedback, proceed to their profile and click on “View Feedback about this nanny”. Also review the page: “Tips for Choosing a Nanny”, after you have logged in.
Q: I’m a previous member and I want to register again, do I have to set up another account?
A: If you have been a member before, we may still have your registration on file. To re-activate your account go to the login page and use your old login information. If we still have your account you can simply re-new it. If we no longer hold your account, please re-register as you did initially and set up a new account.
Q: I just tried to register and it said that my email address is already being used, why?
A: If you have been a member in the past and receive this message, it means that we still hold your account and you can simply re-activate it instead of re-registering. If you are registering for the first time and receive this message, it means that your last attempt at registering timed out, but we saved your account and it is in pending status waiting to be completed. To complete your registration, please login using your email and password selected and you can continue your registration.
Q: Before I pay, can I read feedback on other Parents’ experiences with this site?
A: Absolutely. To do so, simply click here.
Q: I have registered with canadiannanny.ca. Now what?
A: We have had tremendous success with our Post a Job option. By posting a job with your profile (you completed your profile when you registered), you will have more visibility to the nannies, therefore increasing your chances of success. When you register, you are automatically added to the “Search for Parents” database which is similar to the “Search for Nannies” feature for you. Once you post a job, you are ALSO listed under “Search for Jobs”, an additional search feature available to nannies. If you do not have a job posted, you will not be listed under “Search for Jobs”. Nannies typically search for jobs rather than parents, so be sure to always have an active job posted. To post a job, click “Post or Edit Job” from the menu; you can also search for nannies yourself by going to “Search for Nannies” and selecting your location from the list – remember to check neighbouring cities to you as well for full coverage.
Q: Why do I have to post a job?
A: When you register, you complete your profile which is listed in our database, visible to registered nannies. Your profile is similar to the nanny profiles you see, but contain different information. We highly recommend that you post a job with your profile as your position will get more visibility. To post a job, login to your profile and click “Edit Profile” from the menu on the left-hand side of your screen. Here you will be able to list in your own words, and as much detail as needed, what the position is that you are offering. Job postings will expire after 2 weeks, so you will need to re-post the job if you have not yet filled the position.
Q: I have posted a job, but do I have to put in my contact information too? How do they know it’s for me?
A: When the nannies do a “Search for Jobs” in their city, all job descriptions come up for that city, listed by the most recently posted/updated. The jobs are displayed showing the Title, Intersection, and Description followed by a link that goes straight to your profile. This way, you can attract nannies with your job posting and direct them to look at your profile for more information and contact information.
Q: I just registered, but now my plans have changed. Can I put my paid account on “hold”, or “bank” it to be used later?
A: No, once you have access to the database with that membership purchase, we are not able to “bank” or “hold” accounts for use at a later time. Once the membership is purchased, use of the service will commence immediately and expire after the purchased amount of time.
Q: I’ve found a nanny, how do I cancel my subscription?
A: Once you have found a nanny, we recommend that you place your account into “invisible” status, located within “Edit Profile”. This way, you will still have access to your account, but your information is not visible to nannies looking for a job and you will not receive applications. Prior to your membership expiry date, if you need to make use of your account, you can still access the database and make your profile visible again. We can delete your account prior to its expiry, but we do not recommend this; if you need the service again before your membership expiry date but have deleted your account, you have forfeited your membership period and will need to register and pay for a new account.
Q: What’s the difference between “Visible” and “Invisible” in my profile?
A: Visible status means that your profile and any job posting(s) are visible to the nannies and they can see your information. If you are currently seeking a nanny, please remain in visible status or the nannies will not see your job posting and will not be able to apply to you. Please note that nannies will never be able to see sensitive information such as your street address, postal code, password, and payment information. A: Invisible status means that your profile and job posting(s) are hidden from the nannies view and they cannot see any of your information. We recommend using this status only if you are currently unavailable to receive applications, or if you have filled your position but still have time remaining on your membership. Please note that nannies will never be able to see sensitive information such as your street address, postal code, password, and payment information.
Q: What does my profile look like to nannies?
A: Your profile appears to nannies in the same format that the nanny profiles are to you and includes the information, just as you’ve entered it, that you have put in your profile during registration. Please note however, that all sensitive information such as your street address, postal code, password, and payment information are not seen by other users; in fact, we don’t even keep your credit card information ourselves. We provide the major intersection field for you so that other users have a general idea of where you live, but not exact. There is also a preview option for both your profile and job posting(s), so that you can see how it looks to nannies viewing your profile.
Q: I can see my password in my profile, does that mean other users can see it too?
A: No, absolutely not. We keep all of your sensitive information like your password secret from other users. Only you can see your password, and only when you are logged into your account. Please do not remove your password from your account or you will not be able to login to your account again.
Q: Does CanadianNanny.ca hold any responsibility over the nannies listed on the website?
A: While we do go to certain measures to ensure that the nannies listed on the site are qualified for the positions being offered, we perform no background checks, reference checks, or screening of the members. Within the nanny profile, there is an opportunity for the nanny to list if they have their Criminal Record Check, First Aid, CPR, and references of past employers for you to check. The decision to hire a nanny is of the sole discretion of the parent.
Q: Will I be able to see photos or other such information of nannies once I am registered?
A: Yes; Canadian Sitter Inc allows nannies to post up to two photos in their profile, as well as a resume, or letter to families in their profile. However, parents are not able to post photos, but you are welcome to trade photos with the nanny prior to contacting them.
Q: Is there any special training for nannies in Canada?
A: No. Nannies will come to us with a variety of experiences and backgrounds, but formal training for nannies is not offered in Canada as it is in other countries. Some nannies you find may have training in the Education or Early Childhood Education fields, but it is not guaranteed that the nanny that suits your position will have formal training.
Q: I am looking for someone only part-time; can I find that with your service?
A: The nannies listed on our site are looking for both part- and full-time work and have a range of availabilities. If you are looking for approximately 30 hours per week or more, please feel free to register with CanadianNanny.ca. If you are looking for approximately 25 hours per week or less, please visit www.canadiansitter.ca for more information. If you are unsure of which service to use, please email us at info@canadiannanny.ca.
Q: Will I be able to search for home daycares on the site (as in caregivers caring for other children out of their home)?
A: No. We do not allow “dayhomes” and “home daycares” to advertise on the site. All nannies on our service are looking for a position where they can come to the home of the family and care for the children in their home environment.
Q: Can I pay for my account through PayPal?
A: At this point in time, we do not offer services through PayPal; currently you can pay by using your VISA, MasterCard, or by mailing a cheque to our offices.
Q: Can I Have a Trial Day With the Nanny Before Making a Decision?
A: We suggest one half day for the potential nanny to come to the home and spend time with the child. This is both beneficial to the family as well to the nanny. It gives the parent the chance to see how the nanny interacts with the child and gives the nanny the opportunity to decide if she would enjoy the position and feel comfortable in your home.
Q: Both me and another person are looking for a nanny for our separate households, can we share an account?
A: No, each individual will need to register for their own account. If you are looking for one nanny between the two of you, please have one individual register and use the account.
Q: What is the “Live-In Caregiver Program”?
A: The Live-In Caregiver Program is a program set up by Citizens & Immigration Canada to help bring more live-in caregivers to Canada as they are in short supply domestically. The Program enables international citizens to come to Canada and complete work experience to gain Canadian citizenship while working for a host family. Caregivers from other countries use our service to find a host family to sponsor, or employ, them during their stay in Canada. For more information about the Live-In Caregiver Program, please visit http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/epb/lmd/fw/lcp.shtml or http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/index.asp. If you require further information about the program, or have questions, please contact someone from the related government department.
FAQ – Nanny Related

Q: Can I register to advertise my Home Childcare centre?
A: We do not allow home childcare centres to register as a member on our site, but you can advertise on our Family Links page. For more information, please see our Advertising Page.
Q: I saw a job advertised on HRDC – Service Canada/Workopolis but I can’t find it on the site, where is it?
A: When a new parent registers, we post a similar job on the HRDC – Service Canada website or Workopolis.com. To find the position on our site, please use both “Search for Parents” and “Search for Jobs”. If the parent has not posted a job, they will only be listed under “Search for Parents”. Remember to check all surrounding cities as the city name may appear different on HRDC than they appear on Canadiannanny.ca.
Q: My city isn’t on the drop down list, why?
A: If the city you are looking for is not listed, it means that we do not currently have any registered users located there. If your city is not listed under “Search for Jobs”, try using “Search for Parents” to see all registered parents.
Q: Nothing comes up when I want to see what is listed in my city, why can’t I see it?
A: If the city you are looking for is on the list, but nothing comes up when you search for it, it means that you do not meet the job criteria (i.e. full time or part time, live in or live out).
Q: How do I apply for positions listed on your website or with your company?
A: To apply for any advertised position, please register as a nanny at Canadiannanny.ca. Once you are registered, you will have access to the database of parents seeking nannies. Search in your city and apply directly to the parents offering the position. Canadiannanny.ca does not accept resumes for advertised positions.
Q: I want to use Canadiannanny.ca to find a job, but I don’t live in Canada, can I still register?
A: Yes. To register, please visit Canadiannanny.ca and register as a nanny; registration for nannies is free. Be sure to indicate in your profile that you currently reside outside of Canada and if you require the “Live-in Caregiver Program”.
Q: Now that I’ve registered, how do I find a job?
A: Once you are registered as a nanny, you can search either by jobs or parents. The “Search for Parents” feature is where all registered parents are listed. The “Search for Jobs” feature is where only those parents who have posted a job are listed. For full opportunity, we recommend that you use both search features and apply to any positions you are interested in.
Q: How old do you have to be to register as a nanny?
A: You must be over the age of 18 to register.
Q: I have found a job, how do I delete my profile?
A: If you have found a nanny job and no longer want to remove your profile from the database, you have 2 options. If you would like to remain a member, but just have your information hidden from parents, you can change your status to “invisible” so that registered parents cannot see your profile, but you will still have access to your account and the database for future use. To change your status, login to your account and click the “Edit Profile” link, then change your status from “visible” to “invisible”. If you would like to completely remove your profile from the database and our mailing list, please email info@canadiannanny.ca and request to have your account deleted. If you have your account deleted, you will receive a confirmation email from us and you will have to re-register if you would like to use the service again.
Q: I was a nanny registered on the site, but now it says that my email address isn’t recognized, how come?
A: We regularly clean out the database of expired users, so if you have let your nanny account expire we have deleted it from the system. Please re-register to use the service again.

A: Absolutely. To do so, simply click here.
